The city would then be able to sell domain names, like e.g. www.shoestores.ghent, www.shopping.ghent, www.jones.ghent, www.jobs.ghent, www.tourism.ghent, etc., to all the inhabitants of Ghent and to companies located in Ghent.

Owning one's own extension is also very interesting for companies. Let's take the example of the automaker "BMW": The main site would be www.bmw and other domain names could then be: www.jobs.bmw, www.brussels.bmw, www.paris.bmw, etc.

Preregister your custom domain name extension now
