Add an extra (sub)domain name that is registered elsewhere

Adding an extra domain name to your existing website is called an alias domain name.

To add an alias domain follow these steps in the control panel:

  1. Go to “My products”> “Web hosting”> “Manage hosting”.
  2. In the menu on the left you choose “Domain names”.
  3. Click on “Add alias” to add an extra domain name.
  4. Choose whether you want to add a “Subdomain name” of your existing domain name or an “Other domain name”.
  5. Enter your subdomain name or domain name.
  6. Tick “DNS settings are created automatically” for the domain name not registered at Combell.
Note that you will have to provide the necessary A records you see at the top to the provider with whom you purchased the domain name. You simply set this to the IP address of the hosting that you can find when you click on “Overview” in the margin on the left.
  7. Choose the website to which you want to link the domain name. This can be the main site or one of the subsites.
  8. Click on “Add domain name” to confirm.
  9. You get the message that we could not verify the domain name. Click on the link to do the verification manually.
  10. Add the TXT record to your domain name provider and then try again. Adding the domain name will now succeed.

In Managed WordPress Hosting, you can add extra domain names so that your website can be accessed via different URLs. You can add either a domain (e.g. domainname.be) or a subdomain (e.g. test.domainname.be). You cannot host subsites.

  1. Go to “My products”> “Web hosting”> Click on “Manage” next to your domain name.
  2. On your left, click on “Domeinnamen & SSL”.
  3. Here, click on “+ Add a domain name”.
  4. In the popup, you will be given an instruction about the A-record your added domain needs to have in order to work with this website. Make sure you write down the IP address.
  5. Add the domain name or subdomain and click on “Add a domain name” to continue.
  6. Make sure you apply the A record from step 4.
