Which plugins are not supported by Managed WordPress?

To ensure the performance, reliability and security of your Managed WordPress package, some plugins are not allowed. These plugins are not inherently bad, but they are not fully compatible with the functionality we offer with Managed WordPress.

These are usually plugins for caching or backup that are not compatible with our own caching and backup tools.

Unsupported plugins

Caching plugins

With Managed WordPress, we strongly discourage the installation of any caching plugins, as we have already set up Varnish caching at server level. This works much better than any plugin to improve the performance of your website.

However, since these caching plugins are often incompatible with our own caching system at server level, we do not allow the following plugins:

  • WP Rocket – Only the preload function. If you’re not using this, you can still use WP Rocket.

Backup plugins

Every day, Managed WordPress creates a backup that you can access via the control panel. From there, you can restore backups to your live website or a test environment with a single click.

Additional backup plugins are therefore no longer necessary. All they do is consume bandwidth, which affects the performance of your website. This is why we do not allow plugins that create non-incremental backups. The most important ones are:

  • All-in-One WP Migration
  • BackupBuddy
  • BackWPup
  • Snapshot
  • Updraftplus
  • WP DB Backup
  • WP DB Backup Made

Do you want to make external backups anyway?
In that case, make sure you use an incremental backup plugin such as VaultPress, WP Time Capsule, ManageWP or BlogVault.

Plugins to optimise your images

To ensure the performance of your Managed WordPress package, we do not allow server-based plugins to optimise your images.

However, to optimise your images, you can use plugins on external servers.
Some good examples are: Imagify Image Optimizer, ShortPixel Image Optimizer and EWWW Image Optimizer Cloud.

Plugins to compress your videos

Just like with images, we do not allow server-based plugins for video conversion and compression.
This also includes FFmpeg.

Other unsupported plugins

  • Allow PHP Execute
  • Dynamic Widgets
  • Exec-PHP
  • Antispam by Clean-talk
  • Easy Updates Manager
  • Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades
  • WP Downgrade

Strongly discouraged plugins

These plugins can either overload the server or result in a large number of database queries. In both cases, the performance of your website will be significantly reduced.

  • WPML (Polylang is a good alternative)
