E- mail can be stored in separate mailboxes, each with their own user name and password. Each mailbox can have an unlimited number of aliases.

Example: info@domainname.com can be a mailbox, but sales@domainname.com can be an alias which will be forwarded to info@domainname.com. If the emails for the alias should be sent to another mailbox, you will have to create a separate mailbox or alternatively you can setup an email alias for any other e-mail address (including hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc).

COMBELL uses industry standard POP3 mailservers.

A catch-all mailbox is an e-mail address, which receives all non-configured e-mails to you domain name. This means that if someone sends an e-mail to your domain name, but writes a wrong name before the @, this mail will be sent to your catch-all mailbox anyway.

Example: Your e-mail address is jan.janssens@domainname.com , but someone accidentally writes jean.janssens@domainname.com: this mail will be delivered anyway.

You can use this function to not lose any of your e-mails. The 'wrong' e-mail address will be sent to your main mailbox (i.e. the mailbox you received from COMBELL during the activation). Or you can redirect your catch-all to any other mailbox, or even to any webmail account like hotmail, yahoo, gmail etc.

Another 'creative' use of the catch all function : you can use all kinds of e-mail addresses on your website like admin@mydomain.com, orders@mydomain.com, support@mydomain.com, webmaster@mydomain.com, complaints@mydomain.com etc etc. None of those need to be set up as e-mail users in your hosting account. Emails send to any of them will all end up in your catch-all mailbox. With a little creative use of email filters you can process or even redistribute them further. A handy way to organise you e-correspondance.

An e-mail alias is an e-mail address, that can be linked to your mailbox or to any other existing email address. All e-mails, send to this alias are forwarded to the linked mailbox.

Example: info@domainname.com is the main mailbox, but sales@domainname.com and information@domainname.com when they are e-mail aliases of info@domainname.com will arrive in the same person's mailbox.

Another 'creative' use of aliases : you can use all kinds of e-mail addresses on your website like admin@mydomain.com, orders@mydomain.com, support@mydomain.com, webmaster@mydomain.com, complaints@mydomain.com etc etc. If you set each one of these up as an alias then all emails send to them will be forwarded to any working e-mail adress. That means you are in no way limited by the number of mailboxes that comes with your hosting account. If some of your staff already have a personal email account it might be easier for them to just use one single e-mail account, that's where e-mail aliases can be very practical as well.

With a little creative use of email filters that check which e-mail address the e-mail was sent to, you can sort and organise your emails easily. A handy way to organise you e-correspondance.

An unlimited number of mailing lists with links to an unlimited number of addressees via your control panel.

To easily manage mailings - to your customers or website visitors - we advise using mailing list software. COMBELL has standard free scripts available, which can be easily added to your hosting package and that allow people to subscribe to your mailing list(s).

No matter where you are in the world, if there is an internet connection, COMBELL webmail (http://webmail.combell.com) allows you to read, write and send e-mails, of course including attachments.

When you are out of the office, your mailbox can be set-up to send an automatic out-of-the-office message as auto-reply to any new incoming mail.

You can create and change this message via the control panel.

You have your own mailserver and you wish to only host your website at COMBELL but manage your e-mail locally. Is this possible? Yes. There are two possibilities for customers with their own local mailserver:

• You provide us with your mailserver IP-address (Microsoft Exchange, ...) and COMBELL will enter this in the MX domain name nameserver configuration. Different IP-addresses or different mailservers are no problem at all. Please contact COMBELL support for configuring this. Backup mailserver possibilities as an option to local mailserver cost 150 EUR per year.
• 1 mailbox should always remain active on the hosting server; this will also function as catch-all mailbox. This way, all e-mails are centrally stored on the COMBELL mailserver. Your mailserver can empty the main mailbox at regular times and redistribute the mail to different users.
