Co-location

Veel gestelde vragen over Colocation

What is a co-located server?

Server co-location implies that your own server (a specific computer) is placed in one of Combell’s data centres. Of course, no one else but you has access to this server. So, you have to install your own software on your server all by yourself and you have full root access to your own computer.
So, in this case, the term co-location also refers to “together at the same location”. You install your own server in one of Combell’s data centres, where it is placed “together” with all our other servers.

What is the difference between dedicated hosting and co-location?

With professional dedicated server hosting, you pay a monthly fee that allows you to use a full server. This monthly fee includes the following: the server hardware, security updates, 24/7 monitoring, data traffic, the full installation and the preparation of the server.

If, on the other hand, you choose co-location, you have to buy your server (hardware) and install the operating system and the software on the server all by yourself. You have to bring it yourself to the Combell data centre, where it will be installed together with all our other servers in a secure environment. At Combell, you also benefit from a fixed quantity of free data traffic per month in your co-location contract.

If desired, you can also get support from Combell’s collaborators, but with co-location, this is an option, which is thus not automatically included.

The greatest benefits of a dedicated server compared with co-location are:

  • No huge investment for the purchase of a server.
  • Support from Combell is automatically included.
  • Purchase & storage of server hardware.
  • Purchase & storage of spare parts for your dedicated server.
  • Hardware installation, including disk controllers, disk arrays and RAM.
  • Your hardware is monitored 24/7 and in case of default, an adequate solution is found according to the SLA.
  • Burn-in tests of your server hardware.

Do you offer a Service Level Agreement (SLA)?

We most definitely do. There is a Service Level Agreement for both customers with a professional dedicated web hosting contract and customers with a co-location contract. In this SLA, you get a clear overview of the services provided by Combell and what happens should a failure occur. This agreement also states that Combell is at your service 24/7, also in case of urgent problems.

What payment terms do you offer for co-location hosting?

The minimum payment term for dedicated server hosting or for co-location is 3 months. If you choose a yearly contract, you get a 5% discount per year.
