Comparison

Below, you will find a comparative table in which we make a comparison between virtual server (VPS), public cloud and private cloud. VPS servers are our entry-level virtual servers based on Virtuozzo, where both the software and the CPU are shared with other servers. But it is with our public and private cloud solutions that you will experience the true benefits of cloud computing.

Scalability This means the scalability of your cloud server. Scalability is the possibility to rapidly and easily increase or reduce your capacity. Scalability is rather limited on VPS cloud, but very extensive on our public and private cloud hosting.
Scalability Scalability Scalability
Flexibility Flexibility is partly related to scalability. It also underlines the possibility to e.g. combine a cloud server with dedicated server solutions (hybrid server solutions).
Flexibility Flexibility Flexibility
High availability High availability comprises techniques such as load balancing, clustering and replication. This way, the risk of downtime is reduced to zero. If one of our physical servers in the cloud fails, another server in the cloud is started and takes over the tasks of the failed server. So, your environment always keeps working, even when maintenance tasks are being performed. Combell automatically offers high availability with each public and private cloud solution. High availability is not possible on a VPS cloud.
High availability High availability High availability
Fault tolerance Fault Tolerance is a complement of High Availability. If a server fails, another server takes over immediately. With High Availability, this new server must be started. With the Fault Tolerance option, this server is always ready, so that the 3 minutes to start are not even necessary. This way, there is no downtime at all.

Dedicated hardware With VPS and public cloud, you use shared hardware. With private cloud, you have your own (dedicated) hardware at your disposal. So, with private cloud, no other customer uses the infrastructure.

Multi-data centre Combell offers a unique Multi-data centre solution. The concept is based on the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and the multi-data centre network acts as a large logical network for the public. This offers huge benefits such as a much faster rerouting (compared with changes made via DNS, which are common with other multi-data centre installations) in case of failure or intentionally modified configurations.
- Included Included
CPU isolation With VPS cloud, you share the processor with other users. With public and private cloud, you have a fully separate virtual processor at your disposal.
- Included Included
Memory isolation With the 3 types of cloud servers, memory is completely separated from the other cloud servers.

OS (kernel) isolation With VPS cloud, the operating system is shared with other virtual servers. This also means that you cannot install your own OS version. With our public and private cloud servers, each server runs a fully isolated operating system.
Shared Dedicated Dedicated
Storage Each cloud server needs storage to store your files for your websites, databases or other applications. With VPS cloud and public cloud, you share this storage infrastructure with others. With your own private cloud, it is possible to have dedicated storage.
Shared Shared Shared/Dedicated
Storage backend The storage backend is the storage infrastructure. With public and private cloud, its quality is higher than with our VPS cloud. There is also a difference between archiving and high-performance storage. This is related to the speed of the disks.

SLA A service level agreement (SLA) is an agreement through which Combell takes care of many management tasks for you. The higher the SLA, the more tasks Combell performs for you and the higher the guarantees that we offer to you. You can e.g. get guaranteed response and recovery waiting times and direct access to our senior support collaborators. With our VPS cloud, 2 service levels are possible. For the public and private clouds, Combell offers 5 service levels.

Backup Backup is essential for your websites, databases or applications. On a VPS cloud server, there is only an image backup of all the files on the server every 24 h. With public and private cloud, however, you get advanced backup, which allows you to manage separate scheduled backups, to restore just 1 file, etc.

Processor With VPS cloud, there is a shared processor. In our public cloud, it is possible to have a processor up to 4 VPU. In your own private cloud, you can get as much processing power as you need.

Virtualisation technology With this, we indicate the software that we use to virtualize the servers. With VPS cloud, it is Parallels Virtuozzo. Our public cloud is based on VMware. With a private cloud, we offer virtualisation solutions based on VMware, Hyper-V or XEN.
