Total freedom for personal scripts
With all COMBELL hosting packages, you can freely use your own scripts. You are in no way restricted or limited to the scripts we offer.
PHP Scripting
 PHP is the ultimate programming language for designing internet applications. It is relatively easy to work with, there is plenty of online documentation and help available and it works perfectly with MySQL.
COMBELL currently offers PHP version 4.4.2. According to your personal needs, you can change - whenever required - the PHP-configuration in php.ini, with the help of the handy VDS-structure.
PHP scripts can be recognised by their .php extension, or sometimes .PHP3 or .PHP4.Click here for more information about the PHP configuration in a standard COMBELL Linux package.
CGI or Perl Scripting
 CGI/Perl has proven its efficiency as web programming language for many years. Of course COMBELL offers this technology too. The version on our servers is: perl-5.8.5-24.
You will have your own, personal cgi-bin directory, which usually contains all of your .cgi or perl files. However, with only a few small changes in the control panel configuration, your cgi-scripts will work in other locations of your hosting package as well.
CGI or Perl scripts can be recognised by their extension: .cgi or .pl.
SSI (Server Side Includes)
SSI (Server Side Includes) is an extension to the HTML language that allows you to include files (text or html) in other HTML documents, for example to show the time and date, etc...
Suppose you want to add something to all of your HTML pages. However, this should be easy to change later, without having to edit every single HTML-file (e.g. adding a header and footer to each page). With SSI, you can add this to all of your HTML pages and change/update it later very easily.
HTML pages, using SSI, can be recognised by the extension .shtml.
Python Scripting
 Python is an object-oriented, interactive programming language, comparable with Perl and Java. It combines power with clever syntax. You can find plenty of help sites on the Internet, which will help you to use this language.
Python scripts can be recognised by the extension .py.
Personal CGI-bin directory
Do you have to be able to reset directory/file permissions, to enable your script(s) to create, delete or change a directory or file for example? No problem! With CHMOD in FTP, you can change all file/directory permissions yourself.
Tomcat JSP (option)
 Tomcat JSP (JavaServerPages) 5.5.7 is available starting with the Linux Basic package. You have your own JSP server, which you can turn on/off. A MySQL connector is already available for connection with MySQL from JSP.
Tomcat JSP is an option, which costs 150 EUR per year.
If your customers are using ASP or .NET scripts, COMBELL also offers Windows hosting solutions.
