What is a subdomain?

A subdomain is a little piece of address that you will find before the actual domain name. Here's an example: http://documents.domainname.com.

Your domain name can be compared to a main folder. In this folder, you can put several elements; subdomains in this case. This way, you can e.g. create several subdomains for different departments within your company.
