Domainnames registration for Belgium .be
There are no special conditions for registering a .be domain name. If your .be domain name is still available, you can register it without any restrictions.
However, the following is not accepted:- Names made up of characters other then 'a-z', 'A-Z', '0-9' and '-', or starting/ending with '-'.
- Names made up of less then two (2) or more then sixty three (63) characters.
- Names with '-' in third or fourth position (f.e. www. ex--mple.be)
- Domain names that are already registered ('first-come-first-served' principle) or domain names 'on hold'. A domain name is put 'on hold' as soon as:
- DNS BE (registry) is informed about the start of a juridic procedure - for a lawcourt or else - concerning the domain name or
- The agreement between DNS BE and a registrar is finished and DNS BE has asked the licence-taker to appoint a new registrar.
The 'first-come-first-served' principle is applied for .be extensions. So don't wait any longer and register your .be domain today!

Transfer .be
You can transfer your .be domain name in a very smooth way. DNS Belgium will request for confirmation by e-mail so as to approve the transfer. If the answer is positive, the domain name will be transfered within 24 hours.

Domain status: .be
The status of a domain is the condition of a given domain name at a particular moment; a status can be verified via the WHOIS function.
- FREE:
Domain name is available for registration except if it does not comply with the Terms & Conditions (point 2. Acceptable domainnames). - REGISTERED:
Domain name is in use, therefore not available for registration; the agent manages the domain. - ON HOLD:
This is an exception of REGISTERED, this means that an ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution, i.e., in Cepina) or lawsuit is pending. This is not visible to the outside world because the domain stays active; however, no changes can be made to the domain by the agent. - OUT OF SERVICE:
Domain names of which the agent stopped being agent (failure or termination of the contract)and whose due date has passed, are accorded this status. The licence right of these names can only be renewed through a new agent. - QUARANTINE:
Names deactivated by the licensee (through a registrar) or by the registrar himself (e.g. when the renewal invoice was not settled on time) will no longer be immediately released but will be blocked for 40 days. These names are not working, but are NOT YET released. - NOT ALLOWED: (new since june 1st 2004)
- The domain name you inserted is not valid in the .be zone. This might be the case because unvalid characters appear or (and this is also new) because the domain name does not comply with the .be registration rules (illegal characters, name is too short, too long, starting or ending with a dash, or letter-letter-dash-dash combination).
Example: when asking for the status of the domain name 'a.be', whois used to respond with: 'Status: Free'. This means that the domain name has not been registered (and might induce the idea that the domain name can be registered, which is not the case, as one-letter domain names are not allowed under the .be zone). From 1 June 04, whois will respond with 'Status: NOT ALLOWED'.
