Last October 14, SIDN (the organisation that attributes and registers .nl domain names in the Netherlands) has increased the publication frequency of its zone files to 12 times a day.
Consequently, new requests for a .nl domain name now take max. two hours and are usually online one hour after submission. Publication occurs at fixed times, every two hours.
The zone file is the file that contains the domain name references that are useful to the DNS system.
Earlier this year, SIDN already increased the frequency a couple of times. Eventually, the aim is to obtain a dynamic, automatic and real-time update, as it happens with e.g. .eu, .com and .net domain names.
