Over 138 million domain names registered worldwide

According to the Domain Name Industry Brief of the American VeriSign for the second quarter of this year, it appears that during this same second quarter, a new record has been set concerning the number of new domain name registrations.

Between the beginning of April and the end of June, 14,5 million new domain names have been registered, an amount never reached before in one single quarter.

By the end of June, the total amount of registered domain names worldwide added up to 138 million, for all kinds of Top Level Domain Names.

Most of them end with .com. In terms of popularity, this extension is followed by .de (Germany), .net, .uk (United Kingdom), .cn (China) and .org.

Among the extensions that have strongly gained interest, we find, among others, the Chinese .cn extension.
