The commercial importance of a good domain name has once again been illustrated by the recent takeover of the domain name ireport.com by the news channel CNN, which, late last year, spent no less than 750.000 USD to obtain it.
The domain name had been the property of Rick Schwartz since 1997. Schwartz is quite experienced in this field, which explains why he goes by the nickname ‘Domain King’. This is also the name of his blog about selling domain names.
CNN offers a service named iReport, whereby viewers can upload news videos, which may contingently be showed on TV.
Insiders expect that CNN will create a User Generated Content platform based on this service - a sort of online platform for amateur journalists.
