Almost 1.000.000 .es domain names
Shortly, the millionth .es domain name will be registered. Spanish domain names have been liberalized in 2005 and have increased strongly since then. In 2004, there were barely 85.000 .es domain names. After the liberalisation, there were almost 300.000 .es domain names and today, there are over 800.000. This popularity is due to free registration, the number of Spanish-speaking people around the world and the overabundance of .com domain names that have already been registered. These days, domain trading of .es domains is also very popular and the registry has recently launched an automated system for such business.
