The second edition of the PHPBenelux Conference took place on 28 & 29 January. This event was organised by the PHPBenelux User Group. This group is the contact point for all issues relating to PHP development in the Benelux. Thijs Feryn, our technology evangelist, is a board member of this user group and thus also organised the conference.

As a gold sponsor of this event, Combell got a stand in the exhibition hall. Each participant got a free t-shirt and, on top of that, Combell raffled off a sailing trip for 2 people. The winner was Tom Claus, developer at Inventis.

The event was highly approved by the international PHP community and is now considered as a leading conference. The impact of the event is mainly due to the very strong programme and the modest entrance fees. Both elements are typical for an event organised by a community. That is exactly why it is so important for sponsors to support such events.

The programme included many worldwide renowned international speakers, among which people who work for Facebook, Microsoft, Sourceforge, SugarCRM & Zend (among others). We can hardly deny that this is the cheapest and most qualitative form of training for PHP developers. Thijs Feryn also acted as a replacement speaker when one of the speakers turned out to be sick and was forced to cancel his presentation.

Not only is the PHPBenelux Conference an educative and well thought-out conference, but it is also an ideal platform for networking and interacting with the members of the community. The evening programme included bowling, a free drink and a demonstration of the Xbox Kinect. The social aspect was an essential part of the conference and was highly appreciated by the participants. PHPNL11 was a success and we look forward to PHPBNL12.
