March 2007 : Pre-sunrise period
Governments have the possibility to reserve their own names and abbreviations.
October 2007: the ‘Sunrise period’ starts
What is referred to as the 'Sunrise period' is meant to protect companies and organisations from cybersquatters. Those are people who illicitly buy domain names in order to sell them on at a higher price. This period will be divided in two two-month phases.
All registrations submitted during the Sunrise period will be filed in a public database belonging to dotAsia (registry of .asia domain names). The validation agent will validate all applications that arrive during that period. From that moment on, everyone who has submitted an application has 10 days to prove that his claim to his domain name is legitimate. The status of the domain name can be checked by everybody. Should the candidate fail to legitimate his claim within 10 days, his application will be stricken off the list and the next candidate will be up for the domain name. If this candidate is able to legitimate his claim within 10 days (which started when he submitted his application), his application will be accepted. All accepted submissions will then be invited to partake in an auction of the domain name.
Sunrise period - phase 1 (October 9th 2007)
Governments of all countries located in the DOTasia zone will get priority for the registration of their own name, variations on their name and geographical names.
Sunrise period - phase 2 (As from October 9th 2007)
The Sunrise 2 phase is divided in 3 categories:
SR2a: This period is reserved for brands that have been registered before March 14th 2004 (October 9th 2007 till October 30th 2007)
SR2b: This period is reserved for brands that have been registered before December 6th 2006 (November 13th 2007 till January 15th 2008)
SR2c: This period is reserved for the extended protection of brands that qualify for the SR2a and SR2b periods. (November 13th 2007 till January 15th 2008)
Sunrise period - phase 3 (November 13th 2007 till January 15th 2008)
The third and last phase of the Sunrise period is reserved for the registration of company and organisation names.
Landrush registration (February 2008)
.asia domain names become tangible. From this moment on, registrations will be open to the public. COMBELL will immediately forward the .asia database to DOTasia in order to offer you the best chances of getting hold of your domain name. Only domain names that haven’t been applied for during one of the previous periods can be requested during Landrush. During the Landrush period, DOTasia will consider that all applications have arrived at the same time and all valid candidates to a domain name will be invited to partake in an auction. The highest bidder at this auction will become the owner of the domain name.
Open registration (March 2008)
All domain names that are still available can now be registered according to the 'first come first served' principle.
