Frequently asked questions about .asia
The launch of the .asia domain name has been an arduous endeavour. Here are the most frequently asked questions.

Click here to register your .ASIA domain name

Is registering already possible?

The registration of. asia domain names will start with the following periods:

  • Sunrise 1: October 9th 2007
  • Sunrise 2:
    • Sunrise 2a: October 9th 2007 - October 30th 2007
    • Sunrise 2b: November 13th 2007 - January 15th 2008
    • Sunrise 2c: November 13th 2007 - January 15th 2008
  • Sunrise 3: November 13th 2007 - January 15th 2008
  • Landrush: February 2008
  • Open registration: March 2008
Pre-registration, how does that work?

It's very simple: we will keep the .asia domain name you ordered on file and as soon as registrations officially start we will try to be the first to register your domain name. During each period, an auction system has been created for all requests submitted for a same name within the same period. There will be no auctions during the open registration period.

“First come, first served”, what does that mean?

Whoever submits his request first will become the owner of the domain name. Therefore we cannot guarantee that you will indeed get your domain name.

Who can register a .asia domain name?
  1. Companies and/or organisations that are officially registered and that have their Head Office or actual management within one of the 73 countries of the .asia zone.
  2. Organisations, associations and foundations that are established in the .asia zone.
  3. Individuals who are permanent residents of the .asia zone.

ATTENTION!
If you do not have an address within the .asia zone, you can use our Asian address. Your .asia domain name will then be registered to our address. You will of course remain the Owner of the domain name. This Service will not be provided during the Sunrise 3 period.

Can I register as many .asia domain names as I want?

Yes, you can register as many .asia domain names as you want.

Can I register any domain name I want?

No. The following types of domain names cannot be registered:

  1. Geographical or geopolitical names.
  2. Two-letter country codes.
  3. Names that have been reserved for the countries located in the .asia zone during Sunrise 1. (list not available yet)
  4. Names that have been reserved for usage by DOTasia.
  5. Brand names and trademarks to which you do not own the rights. If you own the rights for your country only and another company or institution owns the same rights but for its own country, an auction will be held between all valid applications.
Will COMBELL register the domains precisely when this is possible?

Yes, COMBELL is in close contact with DOTasia and that's how we know exactly when to relay the orders to them. The moment registrations start, we immediately transfer all orders directly from our database. We cannot guarantee absolute certainty, although we can offer you the best chances!

Who is DOTasia?

DOTasia is a consortium between the institutions behind .AF, .BT, .CN, .ID, .IN, .IR, .JP, .KH, .KR, .KZ, .MN, .MO, .NU, .NZ, .PH, .SG, .TJ, .TW, .UZ and .VN.

Will I get my money back should the registration of my .asia domain name fail?

Yes! Better even, COMBELL will give you a full refund. The only costs that cannot be refunded are those for administration during one of the two Sunrise periods. This only applies if you are the owner of a registered trademark (Sunrise period 2) or of a company established in the .asia zone (Sunrise period 3).

Are you worried that the name of your company might get registered by your competitors?

Don't worry, to avoid this kind of abuse, two Sunrise periods have been set up. These two periods take place before the official launch of the .asia. Companies with a registered trademark can file an application via COMBELL. Subsequently, it will be passed on to DOTasia, the registry of the domain names. Domain names for which a file has been submitted will be blocked. After the launch, it will be investigated whether your claim to the domain name of your choice is legitimate.

What are my options if I don’t have a registered trademark (yet)?

If you do not have a registered trademark yet, you are excluded from participation during the Sunrise periods. You can however try to get hold of your domain name during the Landrush or the open registration period.

Do I have any kind of remedy if someone registered my name?

Yes. If your domain name has been submitted as a brand or trademark with the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property, you can use the "Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy". If this should be the case you can always contact us for further advice.

Wouldn’t I be better off with a .com name?

A .com domain always had a global character. This is because it was one of the first available domain name extensions. Nowadays, .com is more and more often associated with the US. .asia has an outspoken Asian character and is of course also useable internationally. Moreover, the best .com domain names have already been taken a long while ago by others. With .asia you will have a new chance of getting strong names. Holders of trademark rights can even have their own name reserved in advance.

What’s the difference between Sunrise periods 2 and 3?

The second Sunrise period is meant for trademark holders. In this phase you can only register your registered brand name.

If several companies register for the same name, there will be an auction for the domain and the highest bidder will get the domain.

The third Sunrise period is meant for companies with national rights. This can be the national chamber of commerce registration. At least a branch of the company has to be located in one of the 73 Asian countries.

Can I transfer my domain to another registrar/provider later?

Yes, as long as the other provider is also an official .asia registrar, you can transfer your domain name there. We will of course do our utmost best to keep you so satisfied that it won't even occur to you to move.

My question isn’t on the faq list, what should I do?

Feel free to contact us by phone (0800-8-567890) or e-mail (support@combell.com) and we’ll do our utmost best to answer your questions.
