Ghent, 4 November 2011 - In some media, articles have been published about abuse via an unmanaged server hosted by Combell. Recently Combell indeed received a message from Symantec reporting suspect activities. Apparently, one of our servers was used by a customer to spread the Duqu virus. That computer virus is the follower of the sophisticated Stuxnet virus, which was used to attempt to sabotage the Iranian nuclear programme.
Our engineers analysed the activity on the server and immediately started the internal procedure to take this server offline. It was performed according to the ISO standard and prescribes, among other things, that we must always fully cooperate with judicial authorities in the battle against abuse. This noon, the Belgian Federal Computer Crime Unit asked Combell for more information. Combell keeps all data at their disposal to help identify the offenders as part of a judicial investigation.
